Since established hard in the era of early domestic industrialization ranging from 1960's to early 1970's, Korean automobile manufacturers have promoted their own undertakings with an unyielding willpower despite many trials and errors along with hardships. As a result, our automobile industry have been steadily boosted up rapidly despite short history of car manufacturing, and also have typically contributed to the growth of Korea economy.</span></p><p style="line-height:180%;text-indent:10pt;letter-spacing:0pt;font-size:11pt;"><span lang="en-us" style="letter-spacing:0pt;font-family:'HY신명조';font-size:11pt;">However, under the influence of long-term slump in global economy from the late of 1990's, most of foreign advanced automobile makers have been bankrupt or merged and acquired by competitors. Afterwards, domestic and international car manufacturers have entered into more rigorous competitions with each other than before. That is why survivors in global automobile industry make more aggressive strategies for design and marketing upon the development of new model so as to decrease the extent of risk bearing from failures, while struggling to have more advanced competitive edges than other rivals.</span></p><p style="line-height:180%;text-indent:10pt;letter-spacing:0pt;font-size:11pt;"><span lang="en-us" style="letter-spacing:0pt;font-family:'HY신명조';font-size:11pt;">Korean automobile companies have been so far in relatively advantageous position domestically owing to governmental guard and heavy tariff policy against imported cars. But they cannot rely exclusively on governmental protection any more from now on, because foreign automobile markets lift up more voices for opening up our domestic market gradually, while domestic market face more limitations year by year. Now, a domestic car maker that fails to have competitive edges in the aspect of quality, design and performance as compared to top-ranking global makers would be possibly dismissed or in more danger of hostile M&amp;A by other foreign competitors. </span></p><p style="line-height:180%;text-indent:10pt;letter-spacing:0pt;font-size:11pt;"><span lang="en-us" style="letter-spacing:0pt;font-family:'HY신명조';font-size:11pt;">Fortunately, we still have sufficient human and material resources, and even a little time to spare for taking corresponding countermeasures, unless we don't give up. </span></p><p style="line-height:180%;text-indent:10pt;letter-spacing:0pt;font-size:11pt;"><span lang="en-us" style="letter-spacing:0pt;font-family:'HY신명조';font-size:11pt;">Worldwide propagated Internet environment provides us a series of useful information in real time. For instance, we can see any information on overseas motor shows held in Tokyo, Frankfurt and Detroit even yesterday through Internet at our desk, and can analyze such information at more and more rapid speed to take reasonable countermeasures. Of course, these sorts of information are also available among other competitors or consumers. In other words, the insight of our consumers into automobile design also draws near to global standard little by little. </span></p><p style="line-height:180%;text-indent:10pt;letter-spacing:0pt;font-size:11pt;"><span lang="en-us" style="letter-spacing:0pt;font-family:'HY신명조';font-size:11pt;">Accordingly, it is important to integrate and analyze collected information and thereby make reasonable design strategies, while exploring a promising future-oriented vision. If our car makers rely exclusively on imitating the creations of other rivals, they cannot avoid being late runners irrevocably. Better quality of luxury cars and their excellent design have considerable firsthand influence on upgrading their brand images, sales and productivity. That is why this study focused on deluxe sedans in terms of car exterior design. As matter of fact, it is more profitable to sell one luxury car rather than sell 10 units of small(lightweight) car or mid-size car.</span></p><p style="line-height:180%;text-indent:10pt;letter-spacing:0pt;font-size:11pt;"><span lang="en-us" style="letter-spacing:0pt;font-family:'HY신명조';font-size:11pt;">Although the design capability and skills of Korean automobile makers have been much more upgraded than before, but they have relatively low capability to make high quality deluxe cars compared to advanced competitors. In other words, Korean car manufacturers have already approached the well-done level of making small(lightweight) cars or mid-size cars by means of accumulated technologies, and those products successfully attract good attentions and responses from domestic and global markets. </span></p><p style="line-height:180%;text-indent:10pt;letter-spacing:0pt;font-size:11pt;"><span lang="en-us" style="letter-spacing:0pt;font-family:'HY신명조';font-size:11pt;">Nevertheless, domestic medium and full-size car market has been gradually stolen from Korean makers by imported cars. Even in export sector, Korean luxury cars have been sold under the disadvantageous marketing policy at relatively affordable price, although they have good quality equivalent to counterparts. </span></p><p style="line-height:180%;text-indent:10pt;letter-spacing:0pt;font-size:11pt;"><span lang="en-us" style="letter-spacing:0pt;font-family:'HY신명조';font-size:11pt;">It is possibly attributed mainly to the failure of such deluxe sedans made by Korean automobile makers in meeting the needs of marketability and complying with the life style of consumers. Besides, they didn't provide any luxurious feeling to consumers with regard to interior and exterior car design. In past, a Japanese car maker Toyota faced hard challenges similar to our counterpart cases at present.</span></p><p style="line-height:180%;text-indent:10pt;letter-spacing:0pt;font-size:11pt;"><span lang="en-us" style="letter-spacing:0pt;font-family:'HY신명조';font-size:11pt;">Despite late runners in the global deluxe sedan market, Toyota created a new conceptual brand called </span><span lang="en-us" style="letter-spacing:0pt;font-family:'HY신명조';font-size:11pt;">Lexus</span> <span lang="en-us" style="letter-spacing:0pt;font-family:'HY신명조';font-size:11pt;">in the mid of 1990's and have made ceaseless efforts by leveraging an advantage of minimized noises. As a result, Toyota gets a chain of successful achievements in luxury car market around USA and other countries as of Year 2004, and has been in the record-breaking black every year. Toyota also recorded higher sales rate enough to outrun that of BMW every year in Korea. These rapid strides of Toyota are undoubtedly attributed to company-wide lavish investment and thoroughgoing preparation for the future over the last decade, such as the analysis of consumer needs and trend and the development of designing &amp; styling ability.</span></p><p style="line-height:180%;text-indent:10pt;letter-spacing:0pt;font-size:11pt;"><span lang="en-us" style="letter-spacing:0pt;font-family:'HY신명조';font-size:11pt;">Summing up, this study intended to suggest some reasonable competitive strategies in domestic deluxe sedan market by analyzing Korean and overseas luxury car market, and also propose the promising side profiles of new luxury car with competitive advantages through benchmarking competitors exterior car designs developed by analyzing and comparing side profiles among products. Furthermore, this study analyzed certain proportional relationships between each of design elements.</span> </p><p> </p><p style="line-height:180%;letter-spacing:0pt;font-size:11pt;"><span
